For first-time Filipino travelers, Seoul is the easiest place to start. From historic palaces and traditional villages to neon-lit shopping districts and K-pop hotspots, there is something for almost everyone.

You can also take easy day trips outside Seoul to places like Nami Island, Suwon and the DMZ, depending on your interests.

For a first trip, I recommend 5–7 days in South Korea, with at least 4–5 days dedicated to Seoul.

1. Gyeongbokgung Palace 👑

Start your Korean adventure with one of the country's most iconic historical landmarks.

Tip: Rent a hanbok and explore the palace dressed in traditional Korean clothing. It's also one of the best ways to get beautiful Korean-style photos.

2. Bukchon Hanok Village 🏘️

Walk through narrow streets lined with traditional Korean hanok houses.

Bukchon is one of the most photogenic areas in Seoul and is located conveniently between Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace.

Best for: Architecture, photography and Korean culture

Important: Bukchon is a residential neighbourhood, so keep your voice down and respect residents.

3. N Seoul Tower 🌃

Want a panoramic view of Seoul?

You can reach Namsan by bus, walk up the mountain or take the Namsan Cable Car.

💡 South Korea Tips and Tricks for Filipinos

1. Plan by area

This is probably my number one Korea travel tip.

Don't do:

Myeongdong → Gangnam → Hongdae → Bukchon → Namsan

all in one day.

Instead, group nearby attractions together.

2. Get a T-money card

A rechargeable T-money card is convenient for Seoul's subway and buses.

It's much easier than buying individual tickets for every journey.

Google Maps isn't always the best option for detailed navigation in South Korea.

Consider using Naver Map or KakaoMap for more accurate local directions and public transportation information.

4. Learn a few Korean words

Even knowing a few basic words can make your trip easier:

5. Wear comfortable shoes

You'll walk a lot.

Seoul's subway stations can also involve long underground walks and stairs.

💰 Is South Korea Expensive for Filipinos?

It can be, but you can definitely travel Korea on a budget.

Save money by:

And remember: some of the best Korean experiences are free.

For a first trip, my ideal combination is:

Gyeongbokgung → Bukchon → Myeongdong → N Seoul Tower → Hongdae → Gangnam → Nami Island

That gives you a great mix of old Korea, modern Korea, K-culture, food, shopping and nature.
