# Tokyo, Japan: Top 10 Attractions, Food and Tips for Filipinos 🇯🇵

Planning your first trip to Tokyo? Get ready for a city where **ancient temples, futuristic technology, anime, shopping, incredible food and Japanese culture** all come together.

Tokyo can feel overwhelming because there is so much to see, but the good news is that the city's attractions are well connected by train. The key is to **plan by area** instead of jumping from one side of Tokyo to another.

For Filipino travelers, I recommend **at least 4–5 days** for a first visit. If you want to include Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea, add another full day.

## 🏙️ Top 10 Attractions You Must Visit

### 1\. Senso-ji Temple & Asakusa 🏯

Start your Tokyo adventure with one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

Enter through the famous **Kaminarimon Gate**, walk along Nakamise Shopping Street and visit Senso-ji, Tokyo's oldest temple. The area is also great for traditional snacks, souvenirs and street photography.

**Best time:** Early morning

**Tip:** Go early if you want photos without huge crowds.

---

### 2\. Shibuya Crossing ⭐

This is probably one of the most recognizable places in Tokyo.

Stand at **Shibuya Scramble Crossing** and watch thousands of people cross from every direction when the traffic lights change.

After taking your photos, explore Shibuya's shopping, restaurants and entertainment areas.

**Best time:** Late afternoon to evening

**Don't miss:** The famous Hachiko statue nearby.

---

### 3\. Shibuya Sky 🌃

Want an incredible view of Tokyo?

Head to **Shibuya Sky**, an open-air observation deck offering panoramic views over the city.

It's particularly impressive around sunset, when Tokyo changes from daylight to a sea of lights.

**Tip:** Sunset slots are popular, so book ahead if you have a specific time in mind.

---

### 4\. Tokyo Skytree 🗼

Standing at **634 metres**, Tokyo Skytree is the tallest structure in Japan and one of Tokyo's most recognizable landmarks. Its observation decks provide expansive views across Tokyo and the Kanto region.

The surrounding Tokyo Skytree Town also has shopping, restaurants and entertainment.

**Tip:** Combine Skytree with Asakusa since they're close to each other.

---

### 5\. Meiji Jingu & Harajuku 🌳

Take a break from Tokyo's busy streets and enter the peaceful forest surrounding **Meiji Jingu**.

After visiting the shrine, head toward Harajuku and explore **Takeshita Street**, fashion stores, cafés and Japanese youth culture.

The contrast between peaceful Meiji Jingu and energetic Harajuku is one of the things that makes Tokyo special.

**Best for:** Culture + shopping + photography

---

### 6\. teamLab Borderless ✨

For something completely different, experience **teamLab Borderless**, an immersive digital-art museum where lights, colours and artworks move between spaces.

It's particularly popular for travelers looking for unique photos and videos.

**Tip:** Book ahead because popular time slots can sell out.

---

### 7\. Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea 🏰

Disney fans should definitely consider adding one of Tokyo's Disney parks to their itinerary.

If you have never experienced **Tokyo DisneySea**, I highly recommend considering it because it has a distinct nautical theme and attractions you won't find at other Disney parks.

**Important:** Treat it as a full-day activity. Don't try to combine it with major Tokyo sightseeing.

---

### 8\. Tsukiji Outer Market 🍣

If you love Japanese food, add **Tsukiji Outer Market** to your itinerary.

Although the wholesale fish market moved to Toyosu, Tsukiji's outer market continues to be a popular destination for seafood, Japanese snacks, kitchenware and food stalls.

**Best time:** Morning

**Tip:** Come hungry!

---

### 9\. Akihabara 🎮

Welcome to Tokyo's world of **anime, manga, gaming and electronics**.

Akihabara is a must-visit for anime fans and collectors, with shops selling figures, games, manga, electronics and other pop-culture merchandise.

The official Tokyo tourism guide also recommends Akihabara as part of its Tokyo itinerary for visitors interested in anime and otaku culture.

**Best time:** Afternoon to evening

---

### 10\. Shinjuku 🌆

End your Tokyo sightseeing with one of the city's most energetic districts.

Explore the giant shopping areas around Shinjuku Station, visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building area, then head toward **Kabukicho and Golden Gai** in the evening.

Shinjuku gives you a very different side of Tokyo from traditional Asakusa.

**Best for:** Shopping, food, nightlife and city lights

## 📸 Top 5 Photo Spots

**1\. Shibuya Crossing**
The classic Tokyo city photo.

**2\. Senso-ji & Kaminarimon Gate**
Perfect for traditional Japanese architecture.

**3\. Shibuya Sky**
Amazing panoramic views.

**4\. Tokyo Skytree**
Great skyline views, especially around sunset.

**5\. Tokyo Tower**
For that classic Tokyo skyline look.

## 🍜 Food You MUST Try in Tokyo

Tokyo is a food paradise, so don't leave without trying these:

### 🍣 Sushi

From affordable conveyor-belt sushi to high-end omakase, Tokyo has something for every budget.

### 🍜 Ramen

Try different styles such as tonkotsu, shoyu and miso ramen.

For a convenient and familiar option, ICHIRAN Shibuya is open 24 hours according to its current listing.

### 🥩 Wagyu

If your budget allows, try Japanese wagyu at least once.

### 🍤 Tempura

Crispy seafood and vegetables served with dipping sauce — a Japanese classic.

### 🍗 Yakitori

Perfect for an evening meal, especially around Shinjuku, Shibuya and Yurakucho.

### 🥞 Japanese Pancakes

If you want something sweet, try fluffy Japanese-style pancakes at one of Tokyo's many cafés.

## 🍽️ Restaurants & Cafés to Consider

For travelers staying around Shinjuku, Gyukatsu Motomura is a popular choice for gyukatsu.

If you're looking for halal ramen, HALAL WAGYU RAMEN SHINJUKU-TEI Tokyo Shinjuku is an option worth considering.

For sushi, Sushizanmai offers a convenient option in Shinjuku.

For a fun Japanese café experience, Maidreamin Shibuya Store is one option in Shibuya.

And if you're simply looking for coffee or brunch, EDW yellow Shibuya is another option around Shibuya.

**My tip:** Don't eat only at famous tourist restaurants. Some of the best meals in Tokyo can be found in small neighbourhood restaurants.

## 🚆 Tokyo Tips and Tricks for Filipinos

### 1\. Learn how the train system works

Tokyo's train network can look intimidating at first, but it becomes much easier once you understand the major lines.

Use Google Maps or another reliable navigation app to check routes, platforms and transfers.

### 2\. Get an IC card

A rechargeable IC card such as **Suica or PASMO** can make transportation much easier.

You can use compatible IC cards on many trains, subways and buses, as well as at participating shops and vending machines.

### 3\. Plan by neighborhood

This is probably my **number one Tokyo tip**.

Don't do:

**Asakusa → Shibuya → Tokyo Skytree → Shinjuku → Odaiba**

in one day.

Instead:

**Asakusa → Tokyo Skytree**

then another day:

**Shibuya → Harajuku → Meiji Jingu → Shinjuku**

This saves time and energy. The official Tokyo tourism office similarly organizes its suggested itineraries by areas of the city.

### 4\. Wear comfortable shoes

You are going to walk A LOT.

Even when you're taking trains, stations can be huge and transfers can involve considerable walking.

### 5\. Don't be afraid of convenience stores

**7-Eleven, FamilyMart and Lawson** can be your best friends.

You can find affordable meals, snacks, drinks and even surprisingly good food.

### 6\. Bring a power bank

You'll constantly use your phone for:

📱 Google Maps
📱 Translation
📱 Train routes
📱 Tickets
📱 Photos and videos

### 7\. Carry some cash

Japan is increasingly cashless, but having some yen as backup is still useful, particularly for smaller shops, temples, vending machines or local restaurants.

### 8\. Don't eat while walking

In many parts of Japan, eating while walking isn't considered good manners.

Find a designated area or sit down before eating your street food.

### 9\. Keep your voice down on trains

Tokyo trains can get extremely crowded. Avoid loud conversations, phone calls and playing audio without headphones.

### 10\. Give yourself extra time

Tokyo's transportation system is efficient, but navigating large stations can take time.

If Google Maps says a journey takes 20 minutes, don't assume you can leave your hotel exactly 20 minutes before your reservation.

## 🇵🇭 Sample 5-Day Tokyo Itinerary

### Day 1 – Traditional Tokyo

**Asakusa → Senso-ji → Nakamise Street → Tokyo Skytree**

### Day 2 – Modern Tokyo

**Shibuya Crossing → Shibuya Sky → Harajuku → Meiji Jingu → Takeshita Street → Shinjuku**

### Day 3 – Anime + Food

**Tsukiji Outer Market → Akihabara → Ginza**

### Day 4 – Digital Tokyo

**teamLab Borderless → Odaiba → Tokyo Tower**

### Day 5 – Disney Day

**Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea — full day**

This approach follows the same basic principle as the official Tokyo tourism office's 5-day itinerary: group attractions by area so you spend more time exploring and less time commuting.

## 💰 Is Tokyo Expensive for Filipinos?

Tokyo **can be expensive, but it doesn't have to be**.

You can save money by:

- Staying near a convenient train station
- Eating at convenience stores and affordable local restaurants
- Using trains instead of taxis
- Visiting free temples, shrines and parks
- Booking popular attractions in advance
- Planning attractions by area
- Avoiding unnecessary transportation backtracking

And remember: **Tokyo isn't just about expensive attractions.**

Some of the best experiences are free — walking through Shibuya, exploring Asakusa, visiting Meiji Jingu, walking around Harajuku and discovering Tokyo's neighbourhoods.

## ❤️ Is Tokyo Worth Visiting for Filipinos?

**Absolutely!**

Tokyo gives you almost everything in one destination:

🏯 Japanese culture
🍣 Amazing food
🗼 Iconic landmarks
🎮 Anime & gaming
🛍️ Shopping
🌸 Beautiful parks and gardens
🎢 Disney
✨ Immersive attractions
🚆 Incredible public transportation
🌃 Amazing nightlife

### My biggest Tokyo tip:

**Don't try to see everything.**

Tokyo is huge, and you could visit several times and still discover something new.

Instead, choose a few areas each day, explore them properly, eat local food, take your time and enjoy the experience.

**Tokyo isn't a city you simply visit — it's a city you experience. 🇯🇵❤️**

*Attraction hours, ticket prices, restaurant operations and transportation conditions can change. Check the official attraction websites before your trip, particularly for teamLab, Tokyo Skytree, Disney parks and observation decks.*
